Students from 1151 Kendriya Vidyalayas will be able to visit the best of India’s laboratories and practically try out scientific concepts under a new programme Jigyasa.
So under the CSR Initiative Jigyasa, Student from Kendriya Vidhyala will now have an access to India’s Apex Science and Research Labs to learn Science and get exposure to Practical Experiments, New and Modern Scientific Equipment, Experiments and Apparatus
More than 100,000 students from India’s 1151 Kendriya Vidyalayas can now visit the best of India’s labs in a partnership designed to inculcate scientific curiosity in young minds. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) launched the student-scientist connect programme called Jigyasa (curiosity in Hindu) to extend student’s classroom learning to research laboratory-based learning.
The programme will connect 1151 Kendriya Vidyalayas with 38 national laboratories of CSIR, targeting 100,000 students and nearly 1,000 teachers annually. “CSIR will also hunt for talent among the visiting students for furthering the cause of scientific development,” said ,” said Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Science and Technology. “The new initiative will allow students and teachers to practically live the theoretical scientific concepts by visiting the laboratories and participating in mini-science projects,” he said.
“Science has played a very important role in changing our lives,” said Prakash Javadekar, Union human resource development minister. “To inculcate scientific temper among the students we have to make them aware about the impact of science on the society.”
The models of interaction between students and scientists include student residential programmes, scientists as teachers and teachers as scientists, lab activities and onsite experiments, visit of scientists to schools, lecture series, science exhibitions, and tinkering laboratories among others. “The Jigyasa programme was inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a new India and ‘Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR)’ of scientific community and institutions,” said Dr Harsh Vardhan. With the National Level Initiative – “Jigyasa” – “CSIR” will be widening its SSR further during its platinum jubilee year.
